LAW PRAISE AFTER THREE MORE POINTS
Monday Jan 27, 2014
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law had praise for his players after they saw off a decent Welling United side and some appalling weather conditions to claim another three points last Saturday.
"First half they equalised with the first chance they had and we didn't capitalise on our chances - and that's the game - you're always susceptible after that and we came in at half-time 1-1 and disappointed.
"We came out second half and got ourselves in front and l couldn't really see us losing it - it was going to be down to a mistake as the weather and the pitch got more difficult.
"As you can see now [20 minutes after final whistle] it's under water and when that thunderbolt came it nearly hit Dan Bradley on the head ! - l thought that's all we wanted now the referee to call it off. lt's a hard-earned three points."
Commenting on Shaun Harrad "l'm really pleased we've got him here and that's the quality you get - not only is he technically good he's a clever, intelligent player and drops into good positions - l thought him and John Akinde were a real threat, but l had to sub John because l think the crowd would have got him sent off.
"Anyone who knows John would have known there would have been no malice in that - as big and strong and powerful as he looks he's not that type [referring to a foul on Guthrie].
"The other change was Connor [Franklin] for Josh [Law] - l thought he did well for 75 minutes after five weeks out and not done a lot of training - came in, chipped in with a goal. l made the change because l knew late on they were going to chuck everything at us and Connor was another leader."
