Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law declared himself happy with his side’s point from a goalless draw at home to high-flying Bristol Rovers at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night.

The Reds boss felt his side were certainly worthy of the point gained against a side who were still in the Football League last season and who are chalk and cheese in terms of revenue and facilities to aid the respective causes.

“Yes I think so. I think we had a bit more of the game in the first half, but in the second half we came out in difficult circumstances, against a strong wind, against a good side, and I think not so long ago, that’s a game we would have lost” reflected Law.

“I think we have defended well and I think nil-nil is a fair result. Credit to our players, they ground it out.”

And despite the club being a semi-pro set-up, Law also praised his side’s fitness levels.

“We haven’t trained properly as a squad since Altrincham (ten days ago). I have heard one of their lads say ‘We do it every day in training.’

“We haven’t got anywhere to train. We don’t train (properly). They (Bristol Rovers) are probably spending five or six times a year on what we are doing.

“Look at the matchday programme, they have got (a squad) of 28 players (listed) on it. We have got fifteen, sixteen, and after Saturday when Cameron (Dawson) and Joe (Ironside) have gone (back to their respective parent clubs) we will be back down to fourteen.

“I think you have to bring the whole thing back into perspective. They (Rovers) are getting up to 8,000 gates and we are getting what we get.

“I have gone out to my car before the game and they have got about five staff jumped off their bus, unloading it, putting the kit out, whilst their first team are having a pre-match meal. We don’t have all that.

“But what we do have it fantastic spirit and togetherness which counts for everything” ended Law.

Alfreton are back in action this Saturday when Dover Athletic are the visitors to the Impact Arena for a Vanarama Conference game which kicks-off at 3pm.
