LAW MAKES GREG YOUNG HIS FIRST SUMMER SIGNING
Wednesday Jun 1, 2011
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has made former York City and Altrincham central defender Greg Young his first signing since the Reds clinched the Blue Square Bet North title.
Young has joined on a two-year contract and Law said: "I am delighted with the signing of Greg. At 6'3'' he will give us plenty of power and he has loads of experience from the level we are now at to bring to the team.
"He was a young kid at Grimsby when I was manager there. I gave him his chance and he did really well. When we first came to Alfreton we brought him in on loan from Halifax Town but just as he got match fit, he was recalled.
"We have been interested in him for quite a while and fair play to him, while I know he didn't want to drop down a level to join us last season, he has chosen to come to us now when he could have had substantially more money with a club in the division we have just left."
Doncaster-born Young, 28, began his career with Sheffield Wednesday as a youth before going to Grimsby Town as a trainee where he went on to make 28 appearances with the Mariners before going out on loan to Northwich Victoria. Upon his release by Grimsby, Greg joined Halifax Town for three seasons from where he had loan spells with Northwich and Alfreton where he made six appearances at the start of the 2007/08 campaign. Joined Altrincham where he made 108 appearances over 19 months before moving to York City in August 2010. Ended the campaign back on loan at Altrincham for the last two months.
