Law looks for Reds consistency after Salford point

Thursday Dec 22, 2016

Nicky Law was full of praise as the Reds held Salford City 1-1 last weekend. The Reds Boss talks to Press Officer Amar Sharma ahead of the Reds trip to AFC Telford United on Boxing Day:

“The game against Salford was mixed for me, I felt everyone performed well and everyone showed what they were about. There was better application from us across the pitch and to be honest one poor decision on our part has cost us a goal which we were disappointed with.”

“I know that recent league games have been unacceptable from us, especially the defeat to Nuneaton Town towards the start of the month but we have changed things since then, altered the formation a bit and its proving to be a good decision. We’ve reacted positively and we look better at the back, confident going forward and especially with the players we have, 1-1 with Salford was the least I was expecting.”

“Three weeks ago I think we would have lost to Salford, we would have gone under, at 1-1 the ship would have sunk. But that wasn’t the case, we fought, we dug in and we are now looking the way I want us to. We look difficult to beat again and changing the ethos in terms of work-rate has helped us. We just need to get a good run going, keep performing how we have done and we can start getting back up the table, the squad we have shouldn’t be battling to stay in this league.”

Despite the contrasting league positions of the two sides last weekend, Nicky ensured that the Reds would not be push-overs regardless of opposition:

“We know that on our day we can be as good as any team in the division, but unfortunately we haven’t been, that’s obvious. That’s down to our frailties, we have occupied the stance that we need to show everyone how good our football is and not emphasised the work-rate or the desire. That’s changed in recent games and that shows with results, we are getting better, we’ll give 100% in every game and we’ll make it difficult.”

As the Reds gear up for the festive double header with AFC Telford United, Law expressed the importance of point collation in both games:

“It’s a big game for both clubs, they are just above us in the table but we prepare how we always do, it’s just like a Saturday game for us and we know that it’s six points that are well achievable for us. We look good heading into the Boxing Day game and the lads know the performance they have to deliver because they’ve done it in the last few games. We go there to get the three points.”
