LAW FRUSTRATED AT SAME DEFENSIVE PROBLEMS

LAW FRUSTRATED AT SAME DEFENSIVE PROBLEMS

Wednesday Oct 1, 2014

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law cut a frustrated figure following Tuesday night’s 2-0 Vanarama Conference home defeat against FC Halifax Town.

The Reds boss saw his side turn in a very good performance which just lacked goals but also saw two more conceded from headers, an affliction which has been affecting results from day one of the season.

“I am disappointed with the result obviously, especially as I thought we murdered them, played them to death with some good football and were far and away the better team” reflected Law.

“We could have been 2-0 up, but then, when we have had to defend, we have conceded from a long throw and from a cross into the box.

“We are okay, they are second in the league and we have bossed them. But, when it has come to it, we have not been able to defend in central defence. That’s the difference between the two teams.

“We have got full backs forward, wide men forward, put together some really top drawer football.

“Alright, we haven’t scored, but we just kept going before a long throw comes into the box and we haven’t dealt with it.” Law will now spend the next few days searching for an additional central defender but knows it is going to be difficult to come up with someone of the right calibre who will make the difference.

“Footballing wise it’s not a problem, we played some great stuff tonight, they (Halifax) have come here and they have defended better than we have. We were the better team but we have lost again.

“All we want, is someone who can head it, stop any potential danger in the first instance, but you try finding one” ended Law.

Alfreton are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Aldershot Town. That trip is followed by another lengthy away game at Gateshead next Tuesday.

Coupled with last Saturday’s away game at Dover Athletic, the part-time Reds will have travelled over 1,060 miles in ten days by the time they get back from the North East early next Wednesday morning.

Transport
ATFC Supporters' Association transport for the Aldershot Town game on Saturday will depart at 8.45am and for the trip to Gateshead on Tuesday, the departure time is 3.45pm.
Seats can be booked for both games by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
