ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has extended his thanks to Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill for the loan of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (pictured).

After regular number one keeper Phil Barnes picked up a ruptured thigh muscle in the first half of the 3-1 defeat at title-chasing Kidderminster Harriers last Saturday, Law had to act quickly to bring in a quality back-up keeper and it looks like he has done just that.

Eighteen-year-old Pickford put in an in an impressive all-round display as the Reds recorded their biggest Blue Square Bet Premier Division victory of the season on Tuesday night with a 5-1 home win over Hyde FC, a result which lifted Law's side six points clear of the relegation places.

"He [Pickford] was a major plus point tonight" said Law.

"After the injury to Phil, we asked about Jordan. He is the third choice at Sunderland which says everything, and for Martin O'Neill to let him come down, we are very grateful of that.

"The young goalkeeper's kicking [tonight] was immense and made a massive difference to us."

Alfreton are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on FA Trophy finalists and league leaders Wrexham at the Racecourse, a venue where the Reds have already won 4-2 in the FA Cup this season.
ATFC Supporters' Association transport departs at 9.45am and seats can be booked via Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.

Next Tuesday, the Reds return to the Impact Arena when Barrow AFC are the visitors. Kick-off is 7.45pm
