Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law praised his side for putting in a great performance in difficult circumstances to gain the crucial 1-0 win at relegation rivals AFC Telford United on Saturday.

"We knew the importance of the game - before the game we said win or lose today it was never going to be us staying up or us going down - it was a big game for us, one that looks a lot better having won today than it would have done if we had lost.

"l thought it was a great performance from the lads - l thought it was a difficult pitch and swirling wind, and that's as bad as our pitch - it didn't want a lot more rain on it.

"l'm being picky, but l still think we could have played the conditions slightly better - it's not really a pitch where you could get it down and play, you had to play the percentages - as well as the opposition you had to play the pitch as well, and l thought the lads did that well overall.

"l was reading the stats before the game in the programme, goals for we're ninth in the league and goals against we're bottom, and there's a reason why we were in the bottom four - although we haven't scored masses of goals, but we've scored enough goals and if you look at our last five or six games we've probably scored 13, 14 goals but let in far too many.

"Unfortunately we have a tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot and give cheap, poor goals away but thankfully today we haven't do that."
