LAW DELIGHT AT CHARACTER OF SIDE
Monday Nov 5, 2012
Alfreton Town boss Nicky Law admitted he was delighted to have reached the second round proper of the FA Cup for the second time in the club's history after the terrific 4-2 win at Wrexham.
"We got off to the worse possible start but I think we won the game deservedly" reflected the Reds manager.
"We knew it was going to be tough - we knew we had to play with discipline - I thought we did that, but to take a knock so early on it gave Wrexham a lift and gave the crowd a lift.
"We recovered well, we didn't buckle and that was the pleasing thing.
"We are a relatively young side and I think we showed great character.
"The referee has done his best to ruin a good game - what do you do now when you score? You're ten v ten and just gone 4-2 up - what do you do ? - just walk up the pitch and show no emotion ?
"I thought some of his decisions today were appalling - not just for ourselves but for both sides."
In response to an acknowledgement that all four Alfreton goals were lethal finishing - when the side have been guilty of failing to capitalise on chances several times this season - Law smiled wryly and said: "It's not like us! We could have scored goals like that on numerous occasions this season but we have been struggling.
"Thankfully though we have done that today and there have been some really good goals there.
"I think both teams went about it in the right way and for the supporters it was a great end-to-end game."
