Law bemoans Reds attitude in Nuneaton Loss

Sunday Dec 4, 2016

Reds Boss Nicky Law was left frustrated at the final whistle as Alfreton Town succumbed to a heavy 4-1 loss to rivals Nuneaton Town yesterday at Liberty Way.

Speakng to Press Officer Amar Sharma, Nicky said: "The game was frustrating for us, we started well, soaked up early pressure, Adam Smith gave us the early goal and i thought from that moment we'd kick on but it didn't prove to be the case."

"Gave away the penalty which led to the equaliser and from that point on our heads seemed to go. We didn't actively look like getting back into the lead or testing their keeper. It was poor from us."

"I would say that 4-1 wasn't flattering on their part, it could have been more. We were just not at the races and I said to the players post-match that they have to be mentally stronger and be harder on each other and themselves, it just looked like we accepted what was happening, felt sorry for ourselves and the first goal had an effect on the whole team."

"The experience we had on the pitch, that reaction and the impact of the equaliser especially, that shouldn't have happened. I think the introduction of the young lad Mark Shelton in the second half was a positive, he gave us energy and at the end he looked like the only one with energy."

"We looked flat the other night against Gainsborough before turning the screw and producing a performance but yesterday against a team who are struggling, no disrespect, but they have been struggling; we have come out the wrong end."

Law also emphasised that fatigue can't be an issue as the Reds travel to Belper Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup Third Round on Tuesday night:

"It can't be an issue for us, we can't make excuses, none of my teams have been a soft touch and we look a soft touch at the moment but that is something for us to sort out before the game on Tuesday and we have to go again. We have to move on from yesterday's defeat and focus on Tuesday and producing a reaction."
