LAW BEMOANS 'BIG DECISIONS'
Sunday Oct 13, 2013
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law was left to ponder what might have been had one or two decisions gone his beleaguered side's way during the 3-0 defeat at Gateshead.
He reflected: "There were some big decisions during the course of the game. The referee's got it drastically wrong - the lad's brought him [John Akinde] down, but he's not given it [the penalty] because he knows he's got to send him off - and it changed the game.
"We go behind then we go down to ten men which makes it even harder - we'd only got 13 players and l thought our lads did well - for an hour we were more than comfortable.
Law also regarded McGrath's two yellows as "Soft, the referee is giving cautions for one side and not the other - it's not sour grapes, but if you are going to do it, do it consistently and do it fairly.
"We were disappointed with the first two goals we've conceded but l don't want to be too critical if l'm honest - we've come up here with players like Darran Kempson making his first start of the season - Bradley Wood playing with a broken toe - Danny Meadows is a midfielder playing at right-back.
"We knew we were up against it with the amount of injuries we've picked up in the last few games - Jake Speight's come in and l thought he worked hard and looked a threat, and for an hour the game's pretty even until the ref makes a big decision."
