Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 Alfreton Town

Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 Alfreton Town

Sunday Aug 27, 2017

The Reds put on a good performance yesterday ( Saturday) in their Vanarama National League North visit to Aggborough Stadium home of Kidderminster Harriers

It was very much a game of two halves. In the first half Alfreton were excellent. A close range strike from Tom Allan after Kidderminster failed to clear a corner put the Reds in front after 17 minutes. Alfreton went on to dominate the half creating chances. The home Keeper Brandon Hall made a super save from Tom Platt's stinging drive and Tom Allan missed a really good chance with a free header just before the break.

The missed chances came to haunt the Reds as Kidderminster began the second half in style putting pressure on Alfreton's defence. They switched to a 4-4-2 formation which resulted in them drawing level when James McQuilkin's low corner was fired into the net by former Alfreton forward, Joe Ironside. One minute later and they took the lead as from another corner Ngwatala had his effort saved at the back post by Red's keeper Chris Elliott but was able to force the ball over the line at the second attempt.

The Reds grew back into the game and were unlucky not to force an equaliser in the closing stages particularly when teenage substiture Ricky German making his debut after signing on loan from Chesterfield had an effort well saved by home keeper Hall who deflected the ball away for a corner with his right foot.

Significantly the Kidderminster keeper was named as their man of the match, which perhaps tells it's own story.

This performance will give the Reds much confidence for tomorrows Bank Holiday Monday game against Curzon Ashton at the Impact Arena, kick-off 3 pm.
