JUST FIFTEEN GAMES TO GO
Wednesday Feb 15, 2012
ALFRETON Town now have just one target for the season left having bowed out of this season's FA Trophy competition on a narrow 2-1 defeat at Gateshead on Tuesday evening.
Nicky Law's side now have 15 league games left in which to accrue the necessary amount of points to preserve their hard-won Blue Square Bet Premier Division place.
Of those 15 games, four will be severely testing as they are against sides in the top five but more importantly, nine are against clubs in the bottom half of the table, four of them at home.
Victories in the majority of the eight home games left would go a long way to achieving survival.
Every single game to the end of the season will now become hugely important and the first of those tests is this Saturday when 19th-placed Darlington visit the Impact Arena.
The Quakers arrive after a 2-0 defeat at Southport on Tuesday evening, without a win in seven games and having had ten points deducted for going into administration.
Darlington currently have three points more than Alfreton but have played a game more. Their very existence has been in question over the last month but thankfully it seems
The sides drew 1-1 at the Northern Echo Arena way back in August.
Reds boss Nicky Law will have central defender Adam Quinn available again. The former Darlington player has finally finished a two-game suspension which has taken three weeks to clear due to the freezing temperatures of the past fortnight.
The Darlington game is the first of three home games in the next four fixtures over 17 days starting with this Saturday's fixture.
The outcome of the home games are going to be of of paramount importance, particularly with fellow relegation-fighters AFC Telford United and Stockport County visiting Alfreton after a trip to league leaders Fleetwood Town on Saturday, February 25.
