'THE BEAST' RETURNS
August transfer deadline day action has seen Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law bring goalkeeper Jon Stewart back to the club for a second loan spell from npower Championship club Burnley.
Jon rejoins the Reds in a deal which will keep him at the Impact Arena until January 1st, 2013, and Alfreton have been given permission by the Clarets to play him in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy competitions.
He originally joined the Reds from Burnley on loan from March 2nd, 2012, until the end of the 2011/12 season, during which time he became a firm favourite with the fans and players alike as he produced a string of top performances which helped the club comfortably retain their Conferencer Premier Division status.
Twenty-three-year-old Stewart, is an imposing man who stands 6'2'', is a former Swindon Town youngster but began his career in earnest at Bournemouth and moved to Turf Moor last summer.
He is yet to make a first team appearance Burnley at Turf Moor but was handed a new one-year deal in the summer of 2012. He will wear squad number 22.
eds boss Nicky Law welcomed Jon back to the club but insisted that the signing did not apportion any blame on the performances of Phil Barnes.
"I got a phone call to say it was a possibility to bring him [Stewart] in and it was something we just had to do. I just think Jon will be the best goalkeeper at this level which he proved last year to be fair.
"I must stress that Phil has done absolutely nothing wrong and it is in no way any reflection on what he has done. There have been times this year when he has made some top saves and kept us in games.
"However, whether it be a goalkeeper, defender, midfield or striker, if there is someone who comes available in any position who can improve you, and the situation is right, then you have to do it.
"We need a lift and I am sure Jon will provide it."
Stewart, 23, is set to make his second debut for the Reds in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division game at Dartford on Saturday.
