ILKESTON FC v ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Monday Mar 18, 2013
TUESDAY, MARCH 19th, 7.45pm
Alfreton Town are in Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final action on Tuesday night when they make the short trip to take on Evostik Northern Premier League Premier Division club Ilkeston FC.
Kick-off at the New Manor Ground is 7.45pm and extra time and penalties will be utilised if necessary as there has to be a winner on the night.
The winners will face Matlock Town in the final of this season's competition.
Alfreton go into the tie in fine fettle being unbeaten in their last five games.
The last time Alfreton lifted the trophy was back in the 2002/03 campaign when they recorded a 7-1 aggregate final success over Mickleover Sports.
It is a first ever cup tie against the new Ilkeston FC club, but the Reds don't have happy recent memories of ties against the previous Robins set-up having lost 3-1 at the Impact Arena in a third round tie against Ilkeston Town in 2006/07 and a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat, again at Alfreton, in the 2003/04 season after a 2-2 draw in a fifth round clash.
Stretching back before that, there was a 3-1 fourth round defeat at Ilkeston in 1998/99.
However, the last time Alfreton were at the New Manor Ground in competitive action saw a 3-1 FA Cup third qualifying round replay victory after a goalless draw at the Impact as the Reds went on to clinch a second round proper place for the first time ever.
Ilkeston thrashed Heanor Town 7-0 in the last round to reach the semi-final stage but since then Kevin Wilson's side have endured mixed fortunes in the league, winning just one of their last seven games, drawing three and losing the other three, keeping just one clean sheet in the process.
It is high time Alfreton lifted this trophy again, but, irrespective of either side's recent form, this is still a tough-looking local derby clash which has to be negotiated before the final can be reached.
Admission for Alfreton Town fans will be Adults £5, Concessions £3, Child £1, Car Park £2.
