HYDE V ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Friday Nov 22, 2013
by Matt Carter
Alfreton Town travel to winless Hyde on Saturday in the knowledge that victory in their latest Skrill Conference Premier clash could see them reach the lofty heights of the play-off spots.
The home side have endured a nightmare campaign thus far, with 17 defeats from their 20 games - a far cry from the side who finished in a respectable 16th spot last season. That said the Reds will need to guard against complacency, despite Hyde's toils.
Nicky Law's side can boast some impressive recent form, having recovered from a sticky spell during late September and early October to record three wins in their last four league games. That includes beating a Braintree side who prior to last Saturday's game were the holders of the league's best away record.
Nicky Law has several injury concerns ahead of the contest, with Nick Fenton, Bradley Wood and Dan Bradley all facing late fitness tests. Further to that earlier on this week the squad was dealt a blow as Mansfield Town recalled loanee Jake Speight, who contributed five goals in six games during his brief spell at the Impact Arena and was becoming an integral part of the squad.
Recent history as well as form is also in the Reds favour, with the clubs most recent encounter resulting in a comprehensive 5-1 victory for Alfreton - their biggest of the 2012/13 season.
Despite their impressive season to date, Alfreton have struggled on the road - picking up just two wins from ten away games to date. They will be hopeful of improving that record when they visit Ewen Fields - and, should they achieve that, the dizzy summit of the top six could beckon.
