HEREFORD UNITED AND MACCLESFIELD TOWN RELEGATED
Sunday May 6, 2012
THE npower League Two season ended on Saturday, and Hereford United were the club to drop through the relegation trapdoor on the final day, joining already relegated Macclesfield Town in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division next season.
Despite a 3-2 home win over Torquay United, Hereford finished in 23rd place, two points behind Barnet who survived the drop for the second season running after winning 2-1 at Burton Albion.
Neither will be a new ground for Alfreton Town fans with the Reds having played at the Moss Rose home of Macclesfield in an FA Cup first round replay back in the 2004/05 season. The Reds went down 2-0 in the replay after a 1-1 draw at Alfreton.
Alfreton have also been to Hereford United's Edgar Street home in recent years, drawing 0-0 in an FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie in the 2005/06 season, losing 4-3 on penalties in the replay at the Impact Arena after a 1-1 draw after extra time.
