HAYES & YEADING UNITED v ALFRETON TOWN
Saturday Aug 13, 2011
SATURDAY, AUGUST 13th, 2011. BLUE SQUARE BET PREMIER DIVISION
AT LAST, the wait is over and Alfreton Town begin life in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division on Saturday.
The Reds have a trip to Surrey to take on Hayes & Yeading United at Woking's Kingfield Stadium where they are ground sharing.
Hayes & Yeading finished 16th last season, comfortably clear of the relegation places. They are now in their fourth consecutive season of competing at Conference national level which means they have found the formula to successfully stopping in the division, something we are hoping to find ourselves.
Last season's Conference North title success for the Reds now counts for nothing and the start of a very tough 46-game division gets under way.
Alfreton manager Nicky Law has plenty of options all over the park as he prepares to name his first squad of what is a historical season at non league's top table.
Two players who won't figure are striker Anthony Wilson, who is still recovering from a knee operation which he had earlier in the summer, and central defender Leigh Franks, who has an ankle injury picked up during pre-season which looks likely to keep him out for another fortnight or so.
For Reds fans making their own way down, the address is: Woking FC, Kingfield Stadium, Kingfield Road, Woking, GU22 9AA.

Bill Draper has kindly supplied the following observations:
This will be the furthest south that Alfreton Town FC have ever played (oddly the most southerly team played at home was WOKING in the FA Trophy).
It is eight years since Alfreton played a team with an "&" in the name, namely Wakefield & Emley. You then have to look back a further 42 years to the Central Alliance days when we met Clay Cross & Danesmoor MW and Wilmorton & Alvaston, both of whom we also played in Derbyshire Senior Cup ties.
Wilmorton were famous for playing with reverse numbering, the keeper wearing 11 and the 'outside-left' number one!
Alfreton's first home game in Blue Square Bet Premier is on Tuesday evening when Southport are the visitors to the Impact Arena. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
