Harrogate Town v Alfreton Town

Harrogate Town v Alfreton Town

Monday Feb 19, 2018

After narrowly going down 3-2 to league leaders Salford City at the Impact Arena on Saturday, the Reds now visit second in the table Harrogate Town tomorrow for a Vanarama National League North encounter, looking to prevent Harrogate going top of the table themselves.

The Reds pushed Salford all the way for good spells of the contest on Saturday, after creating good openings and again churning out a good performance, Alfreton fell short after trailing 3-1 at the break. Marcus Marshall grabbed a late consolation as the Reds battled to defeat against the league leaders but there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

Defeat to the Ammies was just our second defeat in seven league games but our second defeat in the last three. We travel to CNG Stadium having won two of our last three away trips after sucesses at Blyth and North Ferriby United.

With our gap to the relegation zone remaining at five points, a tough game is expected tomorrow at second placed Harrogate but the Reds will look to draw the positives from Saturday against Salford and build on that performance tomorrow night as we look to pull further clear of the drop zone.

Harrogate are just two points behind leaders Salford having accumulated 62 points from 30 games. They have only lost once in the league at the CNG Stadium all season as Salford City won 2-1 back in September.

Harrogate have won their last four league games and won their last four at home.

On Saturday Harrogate had an excellent 2-0 win at Kidderminster Harriers inflicting Kiddy's first home defeat since the opening day of the season. Their scorers were former Red's favourite Joe Leesley after 15 minutes and Dominic Knowles just after the break before a good crowd of 1,739.

The Harrogate team was: Belshaw, Burrell, Kitching, McCombe, Swain, Thomson, Falkingham, Emmett, Leesley, Beck, Knowles.

Subs: Agnew, Thewlis, Ainge, Cracknell, Middleton.

We put up a good fight in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, going down 2-1 at the Impact Arena after conceeding twice in the opening ten minutes to a Joe Leesley penalty and a close range finish from Jack Emmett. The Red's goal coming from Tom Allan ten minutes before the break.

Harrogate have an excellent forward line having signed Mark Beck from Darlington back in November and seeing the return of the prolific Simon Ainge from injury, who scored four times against us in a 6-3 defeat in the corresponding fixture last season.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm with admission charges: Adults £13 standing, £14 seating, Concessions £9 standing, £10 seating, Under 18's standing £4, seating £5.

Supporters' Association transport leaves the Impact Arena at 4.45pm, anyone interested please call Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401
