The Reds suffered their first defeat in five games in all competitions in another high scoring encounter on the artificial surface at Wetherby Road.

It was defender Simon Ainge's four goal haul that made the difference. The Reds took an early lead in the eigth minute after a defensive mix up on the edge of the area allowed Mark Shelton to fire into an empty net. Nine minutes later the hosts were level as Warren Burrell finished a JP Pittman pull back. Two perfect corners from former Red Joe Leesley were then both headed home by Ainge. Leesley then got on the scoresheet himself curling an superb free kick beyond Fabian Speiss.

The Reds put up a better show after the break but Ainge completed his hat-trick after 55 minutes. Paul Clayton making a return to Wetherby Road, pulled a goal back with an excellent header after 65 minutes. Ainge then struck again for his fourth goal on 82 minutes, capitalising on a poor backpass before Westcarr converted a penalty in the last minute to make the final score 6-3 and thus  end a frantic game.

Alfreton now have two cup games beginning with a home encounter against Borrowash Victoria this coming Tuesday at the Impact Arena in the Quater Finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup,  followed by a visit to Boreham Wood in the Second Round of the FA Trophy next Saturday.
