Alfreton Town had their three-game Blue Square Bet Premier Division unbeaten away run ended by league leaders Grimsby Town who came from a goal down to beat the Reds 4-2 at Blundell Park on Saturday.
In front of 3,868 including 85 travelling fans, the Reds went in front on 27 minutes thanks to Dan Bradley's ninth goal of the season from the penalty spot after debutant striker Scott Boden had been fouled by Richard Brodie.
Brodie was fouled by Ross Killock in the penalty area and Jamie Devitt scored from the spot to equalise on 41 minutes.
Four minutes later Brodie slotted home to put the title chasers into the lead at the break and 13 minutes into the second half it was 3-1 to the hosts when Andy Cook netted for Grimsby.
Substitute Paul Clayton reduced the arrears on 71 minutes with a low shot but ten minutes later Craig Disley found the top corner to end the scoring.
Reds boss Nicky Law also gave a debut to midfielder Steven Hewitt who was a late second half substitute.
Alfreton are back in action on Tuesday night when they make the short trip to Station Road in Mickleover to contest a Derbyshire Senior Cup quarter final against Mickleover Royals. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
