GRESLEY FC v ALFRETON TOWN MATCH PREVIEW

GRESLEY FC v ALFRETON TOWN MATCH PREVIEW

Tuesday Feb 16, 2016

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16th, 7.45pm

Alfreton Town make the short journey down the A38 to Gresley FC on Tuesday evening to contest a rearranged Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final tie following last week's postponed game between the sides due to a waterlogged Moat Ground playing surface.

It is a first semi-final appearance for Nicky Law's side since the 2012/13 season when the Reds lost 2-0 at Ilkeston FC.

Alfreton will be aiming to reach their first final in the competition since the 2007/08 campaign when they lost out 4-3 on aggregate to Belper Town. Gresley will be aiming to reach the final for the second successive season.

The Reds will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eleven games in all competitions after Saturday's fine 3-1 league win at FC United of Manchester whilst Gresley will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 away defeat at Leek Town in their last outing last Saturday.

The game had plenty of controversy with Gresley manager Gary Ricketts being sent to the stands after leaving the pitch towards the end of the first half to confront a Leek fan over an alleged racial comment.

Reds manager Nicky Law has no new injury worries and will only have long-term injury victim Brad McGowan missing from his squad although latest signing Joe Doyle-Charles, signed from Ilkeston FC, is unavailable for the tie.

The clubs have only met once before in the Senior Cup with Gresley running out 3-2 winners at the Moat Ground in a third round tie in the 2011/12 season.

Kick-off at The Moat Ground is 7.45pm and extra time and penalties will be utilised if necessary.

Alfreton Town FC Supporters' Association transport to the Gresley game will depart at 5.30pm and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
