Alfreton Town's patched-up side fell to defeat on Tyneside on Saturday as hosts Gateshead found three second half goals, two of which came after John McGrath had been sent off on 70 minutes for two yellow card offences.
With Nick Fenton suspended and five players out through injuries picked up in the past week, the Reds travelled to a ground which has hardly been a happy hunting ground over the years with just 13 fit players.
Bradley Wood showed great commitment to the cause by playing the entire 90 minutes with a broken toe sustained against Chester in midweek, whilst on-loan striker Jake Speight was handed a starting debut.
Nicky Law's side provided good resistance until 63 minutes when Colin Larkin opened the scoring with a shot into the top corner.
After McGrath's dismissal, Jordan Hugill added two more goals in five minutes when he netted on 78 and 83 to send the points the way of the in-form home side.
After succumbing to a fourth defeat in their last five outings, Alfreton now have a week off to recharge their batteries and hopefully get a few players out of the treatment room for the trip to another in-form side, Aldershot Town, next Saturday.
