Despite a much-improved performance, Alfreton Town fell to a third successive Vanarama Conference defeat of the season as Forest Green Rovers triumphed 2-0 at the New Lawn on Saturday.

Acting Reds manager Russ O'Neill made changes and handed latest loan signing Joe Ironside a debut up front, bringing in fit again Duane Courtney for his league debut and relegating Paul Clayton, Dan Gray and Tom Shaw to the bench.

Sheffield United youngster Ironside (pictured) emerged as the Reds' man of the match.

After a good start to the game Alfreton were caught out by a counter-attack on 31 minutes with David Pipe's cross being converted by Lee Hughes. Clovis Kamdjo's second goal in as many games on 70 minutes sealed the points for the hosts when he turned in Rob Sinclair's corner.

The result extended Forest Green's 100 per cent start to the season to three wins from three and leaves the Reds at the bottom of the table and they are now the only team in the division without a point.

Alfreton now have a week off to recharge their batteries before a huge August Bank Holiday double-header with Wrexham visiting the Impact Arena on Saturday, August 23rd (3pm) and the Reds travelling to take on Grimsby Town on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).
