BRADLEY WOOD SENT OFF ON A DAY TO FORGET
Alfreton Town's Vanarama Conference survival hopes are hanging in the balance after 3-1 defeat at Eastleigh on a day best forgotten.
The Reds arrived for the game late after the bus broke down and the match finally started at 3.30pm.
There was a further seven-minute hold-up when a sprinkler came up through the playing surface, Nicky Law's men conceded a first half penalty and then had to play the last 22 minutes plus added time with ten men after Bradley Wood was sent off for a second yellow card offence.
Eastleigh, who now still have strong hopes of securing a play-off place, turned round 2-1 up at half-time thanks to goals from Joe Partington on 21 minutes and a Ben Stevens penalty on 32. Karl Hawley had equalised for the Reds on 25 minutes.
The hosts sealed the win on 88 minutes thanks to a Craig Stanley shot.
The defeat leaves Alfreton just three points clear of Welling United who beat Kidderminster Harriers 3-0, the Kent side having a game in hand, at home to Wrexham on Tuesday.
