DSC Preview: Alfreton Town v Buxton

Tuesday Nov 27, 2018

Alfreton Town host Evo-Stik Premier Division neighbours Buxton in the Derbyshire Senior Cup Quarter Final at the Impact Arena tonight, kick off is 7.45pm.

It's the final game of a seven fixture sequence at the Impact Arena with the last outing being an FA Trophy exit to Farsley Celtic on Saturday which was an uncharacteristic display from the Reds.

After starting the game reasonably well, Farsley took the lead after 25 minutes before adding a second just before the break. The first goal seemed to suck the belief out of Alfreton who struggled to muster a response both after the first and second goals and then in the second period.

The Reds lacked creativity, urgency and it was another damaging defeat for Billy Heath and the confidence of the side. It's been a tough spell for the Reds, despite beating Nuneaton in the league ten days ago, we have registered just one win in our last eight games in all competitions.

With Alfreton needing to find confidence and belief, results have taken a slide for Billy Heath who will be eager for a reaction tonight and his frustration of not being able to field the same eleven for each game will be another issue again in upcoming games, after Luke Shiels' sending off against Leamington last Tuesday.

Its a crucial stage in the season for Alfreton and with the quality of the squad and the ambitions to at least be pushing for the play off positions in the National League North, the Reds will need to get back to confidence as quick as possible to turn the season back into the positive direction.

Buxton visit us sitting in tenth place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table with 25 points from 18 games.

The Bucks playing record sits at: P18, W6, D7, L5, they progressed to this stage after beating Heanor Town in the Seond Round 3-1. Their last outing saw a 0-1 home defeat to Bamber Bridge on Saturday in the league this came after a 3-0 win at Mickleover Sports in the League Cup last Tuesday.
