CHURCH SET FOR FA CUP DEBUT

CHURCH SET FOR FA CUP DEBUT

Friday Nov 11, 2011

ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law is all set to throw latest signing Anthony Church into the FA Cup firing line this Saturday.
Church, 24, (pictured) only joined the Reds on-loan from Blue Square Bet Premier Division rivals Grimsby Town on Tuesday but Law will have no qualms about handing him his debut against Carlisle United in Saturday's first round proper clash at the Impact Arena.
Law said: "He is not going to come in and be a silky footballer, he is going to dig in. I have watched him when he has played against us and we have tried to get on top across the middle, but he just keeps going and stays with it and gets the job done which is exactly what we need at the minute.
"Looking at last year, where we have lost some of our strength is down the spine and Anthony will certainly stiffen our back-bone in midfield."
Meanwhile, Law is undecided whether to pitch striker Nathan Arnold in for his first start since breaking his foot at Darlington back in August.
Arnold came off the bench for the last 20 minutes at Forest Green Rovers last weekend and is obviously short of match minutes.
He explained: "We are in such a position with Nathan that it may be a case of having to throw him in. He has been out for a long while but you also have to think that he has to get his match minutes from somewhere. That is a decision I will have to make over the next day or so."
The Reds boss could have the boost of having central defender Leigh Franks back after a slight hamstring strain and possibly Connor Franklin who has missed the last three-and-a-half weeks with ankle ligament problems.
Law will definitely be without injured central defenders Matt Wilson (ankle ligaments) and Adie Hawes (knee infection).
