CHRIS WESTWOOD JOINS REDS
Saturday Jul 6, 2013
Alfreton Town are delighted to announce the signing of experienced former Wrexham and Wycombe Wanderers central defender Chris Westwood on a one-year deal.
He began his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1995 and has also played for Hartlepool United where he made over 250 appearances, Walsall, Peterborough United and Cheltenham Town where he had a loan spell in 2009.
Chris was also named as Wrexham's Player of the Season for 2012/13.
"He is a player with vast experience. You are always sceptical when you sign players of Chris's age but he is super fit and has been up the front in pre-season training and is in good shape" said Reds manager Nicky Law.
"He has had a great league career and done extremely well at Wrexham in the last two seasons. He knows what it is all about and what it takes and he can come and lend some of that experience and organisational skills to some of the younger players we have.
"It has been an on-going thing with Chris and we are delighted to have persuaded him to come to us in the face of strong opposition.
"All in all it is a great signing for us and we are really pleased. It is a great coup to be able to get a player of that calibre to come to the club" ended Law.
Westwood, 36, becomes Nicky Law's sixth new signing of the summer and he will make his debut in the pre-season friendly against Birmingham City at the Impact Arena on Saturday.
He was part of the Wrexham side which won the FA Trophy last season and has won promotion four times, twice as runners-up with Peterborough United, once with Walsall as champions of League Two, and once as runners-up with Hartlepool United.
