Alfreton Town 3-1 Nuneaton Borough

Alfreton Town earned a first league win since September as a brace from Callum Chettle and a close range finish from Craig Hobson secured a 3-1 win over Nuneaton Borough, as both sides finished the contest with ten men on Saturday.

Billy Heath brought Callum Chettle and David Lynch into the starting eleven, Tom Allan also started for his debut after joining the club on loan from York City.

Alfreton started the game well with Josh Wilde finding Richard Peniket, a smart turn from the striker got him a few moments of space but alert defending forced the striker to the byline and out for a goal kick.

The Reds continued to press with Tom Allan's cross eluding everyone at the far post, several fouls on Bobby Johnson seconds apart resulted in free kicks with Bobby firing the first one over from 25 yards before Jordan Sinnott forced a full stretch stop from Belford to his left from a little further out.

Chettle tested Belford with a low shot which was saved before the winger just missed a Sinnott floated cross at the far post with a perfectly timed run.

Nuneaton began to grow into the game and Sam Ramsbottom was alert to deny Dior Angus in the box from close range, Angus was the Borough's main threat and he came close moments later firing inches wide in the box after neat build up on the left wing. Baker nearly found the net but his effort went just wide of the left post.

But after half an hour both sides were sent down to ten men, Sinnott was clattered on the left touchline by Obeng who was shown a straight red card for the two footed lunge, however Sinnott's reaction to a potential serious injury from that challenge saw the Reds midfielder also sent off.

Belford was called into action yet again to touch Wilde's deflected cross behind before Peniket glanced a header onto the bar from the resulting corner.

With 43 minutes gone, Nuneaton took the lead with a lovely move on the right which saw Richards find Angus in the box and he finished under Ramsbottom.

The lead would last just two minutes though as Chettle planted a wonderful header into the far corner from Johnson's pinpoint cross.

Alfreton started the second half strong with David Lynch denied by a close range block from Belford before Allan nearly gave us the lead with a smart run and a low shot which Belford had to palm away.

Angus tested Sam again in goal as he tipped the striker's effort wide before substitute Craig Hobson produced heroics on the line from the corner to block a goal-bound effort.

With 72 minutes gone, the Reds took the lead as Chettle grabbed his second of the game sliding a low effort into the corner from Curtis Bateson's cross.

The goal pushed the Reds on further and the contest was wrapped up as Nathan Hotte found space on the left and his cross was converted in off the post by Hobson to give us our first league win since September.
