RIGHT MAN TO LEAD THE REDS

Alfreton Town chairman Wayne Bradley has voiced his backing and belief that manager Nicky Law is the right man to lead the Reds into a testing 2015/16 season.
Following a first relegation in 16 years – albeit on goal difference on the last day of the 2014-15 season just a few short weeks ago, Bradley knows the club need Law’s experience, drive, desire and determination which will serve as a springboard for the club as it reshapes for a future of test, challenge and change.
Explaining the decision to keep Nicky Law on, chairman Wayne Bradley explained: “After a frustrating and disappointing season, preparations for the campaign ahead commenced one minute after the final whistle had sounded at Bristol Rovers.
“The hurt for all after suffering a relegation term was deep, but, for me, the journey home after the last game of the season needed to be the beginning of the next.
“The team bus was in near silence as we edged away from Bristol. Best wishes poured in via text, email and social media. They were all welcomed and quite honestly needed.
“The silence was broken by manager Nicky Law who wiped away a tear and thanked the players who he acknowledged had done their best. He took all of the blame. He hid behind no-one and no aspect.
“I confirmed I would meet with him on the Monday to discuss the manager’s position for the next term. He nervously acknowledged the meeting.
“To me, the benefits of a single-minded manager are huge. I confirmed a new, decreased playing budget and a decreased management budget, but Nicky’s desire to put things right were clearly greater than any monetary hurdles.
“I have little hesitation that the re-appointment of Nicky Law as the manager of Alfreton Town Football Club for the next season is the best thing for the club at this time.”

Testing
Law knows it is going to be a testing season in more ways than one.
“Obviously with ourselves, Telford and Nuneaton dropping down to face competition with the teams who missed out in the play-offs, promoted FC United who will have huge backing and resources and a crop of other clubs who will understandably fancy their chances, it is going to be tough” said Law.
“Because we have come out of one very tough division, there are no guarantees that anyone can bounce straight back and we will have to do our very best to do just that.
“Hopefully a bit of know-how in the league and picking a few players of the right calibre and mind-set is going to key for us. “We are going to need another ten to twelve players of which we will need three or four experienced ones to go with the ones we have got and then maybe five or six who have got the potential. There are some decent lads knocking about at the lower level.
“Timing is everything and we have got to get it right geographically because we had a few players last season travelling too far for training and games. Obviously we have got targets and we have got to get it right, get the right type of person in.
“Part of the reason we failed last year is that I don’t think we ever had a squad of players who were in it like they were before when we had a great dressing room and the players wanted to scrap for each other. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out and sadly, it didn’t.
“We have got to find some players who want to be here and want to be a part of what the club are trying to do. We have got to reinvent ourselves and we will be doing our utmost to do just that” ended Law.
