Bradford Park Avenue v Alfreton Town

Bradford Park Avenue v Alfreton Town

Friday Mar 9, 2018

This Saturday Alfreton Town make the trip to the Horsfall Stadium to take on Bradford Park Avenue in their latest Vanarama National League North encounter, looking to pick up points to move further away from the drop zone.

The Reds return to league action for the first time since the 1-1 draw at York in late February. The point at Bootham Crescent was a welcome reward as Tom Allan's header in the first half saw the Reds claim a deserved point in a battling performance which if Alfreton were more clinical, could have seen us grab all three points.

The point at York followed from two narrow defeats to the top two, Salford City and Harrogate Town in which we lost 2-3 at home to the Ammies and 4-3 away at the CNG Stadium. Vast improvement has been clearly visible, alongside excellent performances and Chris Moyses expressed disappointment after the York draw, at gaining just the one point from the last three league games.

Progression into the Derbyshire Senior Cup final then followed against Ilkeston Town two weeks ago, with Brendon Daniels striking twice in the second half to book a final place against Chesterfield in late April.

Alfreton will look to kick on after games against Salford, Harrogate and York and gain crucial points in an extremly tight battle towards the bottom of the table. Although we are win-less in our last three in the league, the Reds had won three of the last four league games beforehand and will look to return to form and push on again at Bradford PA.

The Avenue are currently having a good season sitting 9th in the table, having gained 44 points from their 32 games so far. This leaves them just four points outside the play-off places.

Avenue head into the fixture also having their game last weekend at Brackley fall victim to the weather, Bradford haven't registered a win in their last four league games with their last win coming against Gainsborough back in Early Feburary. Avenue have lost three of their last four league games at home and haven't scored in their last two at the Horsfall Stadium.

Their last encounter on the 24th of February saw them go down to a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to bottom of the table North Ferriby United.

The Avenue team was: Drench, Toulson, Clee, Wroe, Atkinson, Havern, Mulhern, Pybus, Boyes, Johnson, Spencer.

Subs: Hill, Hall, Killock, Nowakowski, Smith

Our meeting at the Impact Arena back in December saw the Reds 1-0 up at half time, courtesy of a Mark Ross own goal. The Avenue gained the upperhand in the second half running out 3-1 winners with goals from Adam Boyes, Shane Killock and Oli Johnson.

Admission to Saturday's game is: Adults £10, Concesssions £7, Students £5, Under 18's £2.

Matchday Programme: £2
