Boston United 3-1 Alfreton Town

Boston United 3-1 Alfreton Town

Wednesday Aug 9, 2017

Alfreton Town suffered their first defeat of the season in the Vanarama National League North, going down 3-1 at the Jakemans Stadium last night (Tuesday).

The Reds were unable to build on their opening day 2-0 win over Blyth Spartans, whilst the home side picked up their first points of the season following their opening day 4-0 reversal at Southport.

Boston United has never been a happy hunting ground for the Reds. Kicking up the slope in the first half proved to be difficult against a robust direct side. Alfreton found themselves 2-1 down at the break. The Pilgrim's goals coming from Mason Warren on 16 minutes and former Alfreton player, Jordan Keane on 40. A well taken goal by Craig Westcarr after 21 minutes had  put the Reds back on level terms.

Defending a poorly re-laid six yard box made life very difficult for Red's keeper Chris Elliott although this didn't prevent him from making one wonder save.

The second half saw Alfreton create numerous chances particularly when Billy Whitehouse and Chris Sharp entered the fray. A guilt edged chance fell to the other substitute Brody Robertson that would have brought the scores level, but he screwed his header wide.

The home side went on to make the three points safe with a third goal scored by Gregg Smith on 77 minutes.

The Reds now move on to concentrating on what will be a difficult trip to Darlington on Saturday as the fixtures come thick and fast.

A detailed report and team line-ups will appear in due course in the results section of this website
