BLUE SQUARE BET PREMIER WEEKEND BETTING PREVIEW

Wrexham have reached the halfway point of the Blue Square Bet Premier season with an impressive tally of 50 points. This weekend the league leaders welcome Gateshead to The Racecourse Ground where a home win is quoted as short as 4/6. When the two sides met in the reverse fixture earlier in the season Gateshead were a point ahead of their opponents before the game and two points adrift of them at the final whistle.
That 4-1 win for Wrexham was the second game in a current unbeaten league sequence of 11 for Andy Morrell's men. Gateshead are unbeaten in six in the league and are quoted at 7/2 for this match. Fleetwood Town are three points behind Wrexham with a game in hand. The Cod Army were deserved winners at Yeovil Town in midweek to set up an FA Cup tie with neighbours Blackpool. That was a long midweek journey and they have another one to overcome for this fixture
Newport were shock winners at Fleetwood back in October in one of Justin Edinburgh's first games in charge of The Exiles. Not many teams will do the double over Micky Mellon's team this season and it's 13/5 that Newport can be the first. Fleetwood are the odds-on favourites at 10/11 despite their exertions in midweek and that result earlier in the season at Highbury Stadium.
Southport lost their long unbeaten run away from Haig Avenue with defeat at Wrexham a couple of weeks ago.
On Saturday the Sandgrounders host Mansfield Town and a home win is offered at 5/4. Their last two home games have featured a 2-1 victory when coming from behind late on. Liam Watson's side are 7/1 in our ‘match specials' to come from behind in this game against one of their key rivals for a play-off place. Mansfield are 7/4 to win the game, but with four draws in their last five games they are struggling for that extra form to make them real promotion contenders.
Cambridge United also have four draws in their last five league games but have managed to hang on to the final play-off spot going into this weekend. The U's are the well backed 13/10 favourites to win at Darlington. The home side haven't won for three games since problems surfaced off the pitch regarding player wages. A recent transfer embargo will not help matters and an away win looks most likely here.
Since mid-October Luton Town have won just nine points from the 21 available to them in seven league matches. That run leaves them way off the pace at the top of the table. The Hatters will still be strong favourites for their next five league matches though.
Those fixtures, over a period of 25 days, are of real importance to their promotion chances and they start at Tamworth priced at 11/10 to get a vital three points. Tamworth's home record is the second best in the division and they might appeal to some punters at a price of 11/5 to put a further dent in Luton's season. Forest Green Rovers were dumped out of the FA Trophy in their replay at home to Newport in midweek.
Their play-off charge is fully on course though and a win over Lincoln City at odds of 4/5 would give them 23 points from a possible 27.
That's true promotion form and Dave Hockaday could call upon wealthy owner Dale Vince to give them an extra push in January. Lincoln's away form has been poor despite the appointment of David Holdsworth as their new boss. They did win at Blue Square Bet North side Colwyn Bay in the FA Trophy last week but have four defeats in their last four league games away from Sincil Bank.
Elsewhere Barrow are 13/10 favourites to win at Hayes & Yeading United. The Bluebirds were 3-1 winners when the sides met at Holker Street in October. The hosts are the 7/4 outsiders to build on their recent win at Braintree Town. The Essex side were strong favourites for that game but lost Jai Reason early in the first-half to a red card. The former Cambridge United player will be unavailable for Braintree's home match with AFC Telford United this weekend. Despite that key absentee a home win is priced at 6/5 with Telford the 15/8 outsiders.
Grimsby Town are the 10/11 favourites to get over their midweek FA Cup exit with a home win over Ebbsfleet United. The Kent side can leapfrog their opponents in the table with a win at odds of 13/5.
Alfreton are another side who can win and go above their opponents at the same time. Nicky Law's team go to Stockport County who have just one point from a possible 21 since their win away at Bath City on October 18th. Bath are 4/9 favourites to win away at Kettering Town.
