BLUE SQUARE BET PREMIER MIDWEEK BETTING PREVIEW
Tuesday Nov 6, 2012
Blue Square Bet Premier leaders Newport County have not won a game in any competition for nearly a month.
The Exiles lost their last home game against Woking off the back of being dumped out of the FA Cup by lowly Yate Town. Exiles boss Justin Edinburgh has had time to work with his side since the Woking defeat and they will be fresh from a long break as they welcome Cambridge United to Rodney Parade.
The visitors are also on a long winless run and have had an identical rest since their last game. The U's haven't scored a goal in their last three games and have dropped to 18th in the table, just a point off the relegation zone. Newport are the 4/6 favourites to win the game, with Cambridge the 10/3 outsiders
Luton Town could take advantage of any Newport slip by going top of the league with a win away at Hereford United. It won't be easy for The Hatters though as evidenced by Hereford's fantastic cup win over rivals Shrewsbury on Saturday. Luton backers will know that they have a frustrating habit of gifting teams the first goal in their matches. From 18 games in all competitions they have conceded the first goal of the game in 10 of those encounters. Luton are the 21/20 favourites for this match, with Hereford the outsiders at 23/10.
Grimsby Town are the third team who could end up top of the table come 10pm on Tuesday night. Their last three home games, including a cup game against Kidderminster, have ended in defeat. The Mariners comforts have come on the road though, where they have remained unbeaten. Their last three away games have resulted in maximum points and just one goal conceded. That makes them a very good bet at 10/11 to win at Hyde. The hosts have won both of their last two league games to climb off the bottom of the table, but Grimsby represent a different test.
Two of Wrexham's last three games have resulted in heavy 4-2 defeats. The other one in that sequence was a 2-0 home victory over Southport in the FA Cup. The Red Dragons travel to Southport in the league in this round of fixtures. An away win is priced at Evens. The Sandgrounders are 23/10 outsiders to take advantage of Wrexham's recent defensive wobbles. That might be compounded by the absence of suspended goalkeeper Joslain Mayebi, who was sent-off in their FA Cup defeat at the weekend.
Dartford have kept four clean-sheets in their last six league games as they keep up their position as dark-horses in the table. Tony Burman's side are up in fifth spot and host Forest Green Rovers as the narrow 6/4 favourites. Forest Green won at Princes Park in the cup recently (by a 4-1 scoreline). They are 8/5 to repeat that victory in the league and leapfrog Dartford in the table.
Macclesfield Town's good form was extended by a fantastic win against Swindon in the FA Cup on Saturday. Steve King's team are still in contention for the play-offs and need to put the cup out of their heads as they host Tamworth. Macc are the 8/11 favourites to beat Marcus Law's team - who have been out of sorts in recent weeks with three league defeats on the spin.
Gateshead came from behind to beat Woking at home on Saturday. Ian Bogie's team host Alfreton Town as the 10/11 favourites to win back-to-back league games for the first time this season. Alfreton, who were impressive 4-2 winners at Wrexham at the weekend, are 5/2 to win their fourth match on the road in the league.
AFC Telford United have had a break of just over a week and will be a fresh outfit as they welcome Ebbsfleet United to the New Bucks Head. In contrast the Kent side had a long and fruitless trip up to Carlisle in the FA Cup at the weekend and now travel half-way up the country again for this evening fixture.
That could take its toll on Liam Daish's squad and a price of 5/6 for a home win looks the best bet. Woking have been inconsistent in the league and rarely produce the same performance game to game.
Kidderminster are the visitors to Kingfield on Tuesday night and the draw looks the best bet at 5/2. Elsewhere Stockport County host Barrow as the 10/11 favourites to get back to winning ways. Barrow boss Dave Bayliss was named the divisions ‘manager of the month' for October last week and he saw his side fight back to draw 2-2 at Guiseley in the cup on Saturday.
The Bluebirds are the 13/5 outsiders to keep up their good run with a win at Edgeley Park. Mansfield Town are really struggling to keep up with their promotion rivals in the table and have not fulfilled their pre-season price as second in the title market. The Stags are 6/5 to win at bottom club Nuneaton Town, the home side are 15/8 to compound the misery of Paul Cox and his squad. Lincoln City's home record has been good against their fellow strugglers and a price of 11/10 to beat Braintree Town at Sincil Bank looks a good bet. The Iron haven't played for a long while with two recent postponements and it's 2/1 they can take advantage of those fresh legs.
