BEST LEAGUE ATTENDANCE FOR OVER 45 YEARS

BEST LEAGUE ATTENDANCE FOR OVER 45 YEARS

Friday May 13, 2011

Saturday's attendance against Redditch United of 1,364 was Alfreton Town's best home league 'gate' for over 45 years.

Thanks to the sterling efforts of Bill Draper, John Selby and John Walker, we can confirm that 1,556 watched Alfreton beat Heanor Town 1-0 in the Midland League thanks to a Brian Beaman goal on 61 minutes on February 5th, 1966.
The Alfreton Town team was: John Mycroft; John Newton, Maurice (??) White, Keith Howarth, Mick Bagnall, Dave Morris, Trevor Whittaker, Brian Beaman, Peter Drury, John Harrison, Keith (??) Jepson.
Referee: Mr R Bamford (Clowne). Att: 1556.
It is to be hoped we can witness another big attendance for this Saturday's final home game of the season against promotion-chasing Nuneaton Town. SPECTACULAR: Dave Pursglove captures Anthony Wilson putting the Reds
into the lead at Gainsborough Trinity with a spectacular overhead kick.

Another terrific match picture album from the title-winning day against Redditch United has been kindly provided by Simon Tacey and can be viewed here
