BARNET v ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Thursday Sep 4, 2014
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th, 3pm
Alfreton Town continue the search for their first Vanarama Conference points of the season with a tough-looking trip to league leaders Barnet on Saturday, football's official Non League Day.
The Reds welcome manager Nicky Law back to the dugout for the first time this season following a six-game stadium suspension following a charge of improper conduct last season but he faces a major challenge to lift his side who have not won in their last fourteen league games.
Law is hopeful of adding at least one new player to his squad in time for the game but he will need late fitness checks on striker Paul Clayton (ankle), and central defenders Chris Smith (hamstring) and Duane Courtney (toe) whilst Anthony Howell sits the game out as he serves the second of a three-game suspension.
Amongst the Barnet ranks this time is striker Job Ayo Akinde who moved from the Reds in the summer after top scoring for Alfreton last season with 19 goals. He has found the net three times already, but there is a wealth of goalscoring potential within the Bees squad and former QPR and Fulham winger Lee Cook is currently top scorer with six whilst the much-travelled Charlie McDonald has four.
Ironically, for all their goals, Barnet have kept five clean sheets from their first six games, the only goals conceded being in a 2-1 defeat at Lincoln City three weeks ago.
Honours finished even between the two sides last season with Alfreton triumphing 3-1 at the Impact Arena on September 21st, 2013, and Barnet winning the return fixture at The Hive 1-0 January 4th, 2014.
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport to Barnet departs at 9am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
