ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP TEST AWAITS
Thursday Jul 26, 2012
Alfreton Town's pre-season preparations continue with a third home game against npower Championship opposition when Burnley visit the Impact Arena on Saturday.
Nicky Law's side have so far gone down 2-1 to Barnsley, 2-0 to a Leeds United XI last Saturday and drew 0-0 at home to Notts County on Wednesday evening.
The Reds could count themselves extremely unlucky not to have gained some reward for their efforts against the Elland Road side as they created numerous chances in each half, had two efforts ruled out for offside and saw a late header come back off the inside of a post.
And a clean sheet against a strong Notts County outfit will boost defensive confidence.
The overall performances so far have been very good and the four new signings so far have quickly settled into their stride.
The Burnley fixture at the weekend will actually be a fourth clash with opposition from English footba'lls second tier as Law's side also played a behind-closed-doors game against an unnamed full-strength npower Championship side on Monday as preparations for the new season continue apace.
Next Tuesday (July 31) brings a short trip over the border into Nottinghamshire to face Central Midlands League side Sutton Town AFC at their Fieldings ground on Huthwaite Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
Three days later on Friday, August 3, League Two neighbours Chesterfield visit the Impact Arena. Kick-off against the Spireites is 7.45pm.
This is the last scheduled official pre-season game before the 2012/13 season opening Blue Square Bet Premier Division league game at Stockport County on Saturday, August 11.
The Reds have confirmed that striker Chris Senior has had his contract terminated by mutual consent. Senior, who joined Alfreton on a two-year deal last summer after being released by Darlington, has hung up his boots at the age of just 30 and joined Huddersfield Town as full-time masseur.
Chris began his career with Huddersfield's academy.
