Alfreton Town v Tamworth

Alfreton Town v Tamworth

Thursday Feb 8, 2018

After a blank weekend the Reds return to Vanarama National League North action when Tamworth visit the Impact Arena this coming Saturday for a 3pm kick-off.

The Reds will be looking for a home win to climb further away from the relegation zone. Alfreton picked up all three points when they won 3-2 in Staffordshire back in October, our scorers on what was a very wet and windy day were Brody Robertson with a brace and a winner late in the game from Craig Westcarr. Both Tamworth goals came from the prolific Reece Styche who recently scored against us for Darlington in a 1-1 draw in January.

The Reds head into the fixture off the back of a 2-1 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity two weeks ago, Alfreton's first defeat in four league games. Despite controlling the game for large periods, Alfreton were hit by clincal finishing and a suffered a set back under new boss Chris Moyses, whose 100% record as Reds boss vanished with the defeat.

Never the less, with the recent upturn in results which saw a 4-1 win over Leamington and a 1-0 win at Blyth before the Trinity set-back. The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways and secure a third win in four league games and back to back wins at home.

Tamworth currently lie in 12th place in the table with a playing record of Played 28, Won 10,  Drawn 6, Lost 12, Points 36.

Last Saturday they earned a creditable 1-1 draw with York City at the Electrical Services Stadium thanks to a last minute equaliser from Darryl Knights. The Minstermen had taken the lead in the 73rd minute with a goal from Aiden Connolly.

The Lambs are currently winless in their last four league games and have registered just one win in their last seven league games. Tamworth arrive at the Impact also having lost their last three away league games.

The Tamworth line up against York was: Jack Stevens, Andrew Burns, Rhys Sharpe, Tom Shaw, Luke Jones, Joel Kettle, Callum Powell, Aman Verma, Bradley Reid, Sam Coulson, Darryl Knights.

Subs: Connor Taylor, Zack Kotwica, Daniel Turner, Jack Lane, Jed Davies.
