Alfreton Town v Matlock Town

Alfreton Town v Matlock Town

Sunday Dec 3, 2017

This coming Tuesday Matlock Town are the visitors to the Impact Arena in the Third Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.

The two teams met at Causeway Lane last February in the semi-final of the competition and a thrilling encounter took place.

The Reds took a two goal lead in the first 18 minutes through Craig Westcarr and Tom Allan. The Gladiators staged a recovery and found themseves 3-2 up, due to a hat-trick from Marcus Dinanga (now at AFC Telford United) before Westcarr grabbed his second goal of the games with a last minute equaliser to send the sides into extra time locked at 3-3.

No more goals were to come in extra time, and Matlock went on to progress into the final 5-4 on penalties.

The Gladiators went on to win the trophy with a 5-0 defeat of Gresley FC at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium.

Matlock come into the game on the back of an excellent 2-1 win at Lancaster City in the Evo-stik Northern Premier, Premier Division. The Gladiators goals coming from Jake Green and former Red's loanee Ricky German, sending them up to 12th place in the league table.

Matlock have enjoyed good recent form and are unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions (W3, D1) but before this run the Gladiators had lost three in a row in all competitions.

The Reds will desperately be looking for a return to form after another home defeat on Saturday to play-off chasing Bradford PA. It was the Reds fifth consecutive home defeat in all competitions but Alfreton looked solid in the opening 45 minutes but a second half collapse, which has been a little too regular in this past month; saw us end the encounter with no points and concede three second half goals.

Reds Boss John McDermott will also be looking for a reaction from his players as the Derbyshire Senior Cup rolls in and it could provide a welcome distraction from the league which has seen difficult results in recent games. A first meeting of the season against local neighbours will see a fiesty encounter and a passionate affair as the Reds look to recover form and consistency.

Admission to the game is £6 Adults, £3 Concessions ans £1 Juniors.
