Alfreton Town v Leamington FC

Alfreton Town v Leamington FC

Friday Jan 19, 2018

New Reds manager Chris Moyses couldn't have picked a more vital game for his first match in charge as Leamington FC visit the Impact Arena on Saturday in the Vanarama National League North kick-off 3pm.

Moyses was appointed Reds boss on Tuesday following the parting of company with John McDermott. Andy McMillan and Lee Beevers also join Chris as part of the backroom staff, with Lee Beevers also becoming a player in the Reds squad.

John McDermott leaves the Reds in 18th place in the National League North, a point clear of the drop zone. The Reds are unbeaten in their last three games in all competitions however, with the last two league games seeing a 3-0 win at North Ferriby and a 1-1 draw with Darlington last weekend; McDermott's last game in charge.

With the Reds home form in desperate need of revival, Chris Moyses first task is not only a crucial six pointer against the Brakes but a league fixture at home which the Reds will be desperate to win. The draw with Darlington last weekend ended a run of six straight defeats at home in the league but Alfreton still haven't registered three points at home in the league since the 4-1 win over Gainsborough back in early September.

The current three game unbeaten run will be a run which Moyses will be looking to build on, but also inject a fresh approach for the Reds and with experience at Lincoln City including a season which helped build the Imps later success, Moyses will be looking to start his Alfreton reign with a win and re-ignite the Reds season.

The Brakes currently lie 17th, one place and one point above Alfreton in the league table.

The two teams met back in the first week in September when Alfreton's Tom Platt scored a last gasp winner to take three points back home after a 3-2 win. The Reds were behind twice in the game, getting back on level terms with goals from Craig Westcarr and Luke Shiels.

Last Saturday saw Leamington defeated 2-0 at Southport whose scorers were Jack Sampson and Jason Gilchrist. The Brakes had been unbeaten in four league games before the 2-0 defeat at Southport (W1, D3). The Brakes away form has seen them win just one of their last six away league games.

The Leamington line-up at Southport was: Breedon, Taundry, English, Hood, Gudger, Gittings, Clarke, Dunbar, Edwards, Obeng, Udoh

Subs: Felix, Revan, Mace, Magunda, Canavan

Reds Boss Chris Moyses:

“I’m delighted to be here at the club, I recognise the challenge ahead of us and it’s certainly a challenge but it’s a very exciting project here, I’m looking forward to it.”

“There is no denying the quality within the squad, we have a great side and we shouldn’t be where we are in the table but we will focus on one game at a time. I want to make us hard to beat and install solidarity and structure to the way we play.”

“I have good contacts within the game and it’s always nice to have options. That’s not suggesting we need to bring any players in but the options are healthy to have. I’ll be treating Saturday as my first game of the season and the lads can treat it as a fresh approach and a fresh way of playing.”

“The first aim is safety and we will aim to achieve that, we know what we want in the long term and it’s an exciting project and we will work hard to achieve that. It’s been great coming into the club so far, I had a good chat with Wayne and I’m excited to get going and first and foremost get the Reds back up the table.”

Head down to the Impact Arena tomorrow afternoon for new manager Chris Moyses's first game in charge as the Reds look to climb back up the table and revive the season!
