ALFRETON TOWN v FOREST GREEN ROVERS
Friday Oct 4, 2013
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5th, 2013, 3pm
by Matt Carter
Alfreton Town will be looking to make a return to winnings ways when they take on Forest Green Rovers in the Skrill Conference Premier at the Impact Arena on Saturday.
Successive away defeats have seen the Reds slip down to eleventh place in the table, although such is the congested nature of the division that a win at the weekend could see them rise as high as third.
Nicky Law's men will be boosted by a return to home surroundings, given that they are still unbeaten on their patch - a run that has recently included claiming the impressive scalp of Barnet and perhaps even more encouragingly, more than matching still unbeaten Cambridge United a couple of weeks ago.
Their opponents have endured a relatively mixed start to the season, which sees them currently sit a point shy of Alfreton in twelfth spot - although given the funds that have been injected into the club more might have been expected.
That said Rovers will entering the clash in slightly more confident mood than they might have done, had they not ended a run of three successive wins by beating Gateshead last Saturday.
And Dave Hockaday's side will arrive in search of a league double after inflicting a 3-1 defeat on the Reds at the New Lawn five weeks ago.
Last season the Reds somewhat avenged the scars suffered at the hands of Forest Green in their Conference debut season, taking four points off their opponents - a far cry from the two humbling defeats they were dealt in the 2011-12 campaign. Alfreton will also take heart from the corresponding clash last time out, a 2-1 victory on the final day of the season.
Alfreton have undoubtedly made a largely excellent start to the season, with their recent losses the first time they have experienced two straight defeats. With that in mind they will be determined to ensure their positive early showings are maintained with a sixth home victory here.
A late injury check will be required on central defender Nick Fenton who picked up a calf injury during last Saturday's defeat at Braintree Town.
