Blue Square Bet Premier Division
Alfreton Town v Darlington
The Impact Arena
By Kev Miles
ALFRETON Town return to the Impact Arena for a very welcome first home league game in a month when fellow strugglers Darlington arrive for a Blue Square Bet Premier Division relegation 'six-pointer'.
After three games on the road it is to be hoped the home supporters turn out in their droves for what is the first of 15 remaining cup finals.
The 2-1 defeat at Gateshead in the FA Trophy in midweek will surely not be playing on too many minds amongst the playing staff or management.
This is it. This game starts the last third of the season and is hopefully the time to start and put a run or results together which will ultimately result in survival.
Reds manager Nicky Law will have few selection posers to mull over. Central defender Adam Quinn is available again after serving a two-match ban elongated by recent postponements and he could return to face his old club. Leigh Franks is still out with a hamstring problem and Joe Day is still out with a groin problem.
Those are the only problems though as there are no players suspended and competition for places is very good.
As the Reds begin the fight to stay in the division, Darlington will arrive in town looking to keep their fight for their very existence going.
They face a hard battle to generate sufficient funds to just keep them going and had ten points deducted after going into administration. The Quakers arrive for this fixture in 19th place, three places and three points ahead of Alfreton who have a game in hand though.
The sides drew 1-1 at the Northern Echo Arena in the fourth game of the campaign way back on August 23rd.
However, the form guide for this game goes out of the window as very few of Darlington's recognised squad prior to Christmas are still with the club, and it is a game where anything could happen, especially with both sides fighting for survival.
