Alfreton Town v Curzon Ashton

Alfreton Town v Curzon Ashton

Sunday Aug 27, 2017

Tomorrow on Bank Holiday Monday, the Reds entertain Curzon Ashton in Vanarama National League North at the Impact Arena, Kick-off 3pm.

They will be looking to build on the good performance at Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday. The Reds however slipped to another away defeat leaving them in 15th place in the table.

Alfreton will also be looking to overturn the two results against Curzon Ashton, last season, losing 1-0 at the Impact Arena and 5-0 at the Tameside Stadium.

Curzon lie two places above the Reds, having so far acquired seven points. On Saturday they were soundly beaten 3-0 at home by Blyth Spartans.

The Curzon Ashton team was : Mason,  Baillie,  Regan, Hunt, Thornley,  Crothers, Guest,  Marshall, Cummins, Leonard, Wharton

Subs : McKenzie, Bianga, Shaw, Shenton, Butterworth

Another interesting anecdote from Bill Draper . We played Curzon Ashton on Easter Monday 1990 in the Northern Premier League at their old ground. We lost the game 4-0 but when the score was 0-0 John Storey had a perfect goal disallowed as his shot hit the back of the net it also hit the lower stanchion that the bottom of the net was attached to. The referee waving play on in the process.

Ironically John Storey only ever scored twice for Alfreton Town. Both these goals came the following season against Curzon Ashton when we drew 1-1 away and he also scored in the  3-1 victory  at home.

The manager at the time was Paddy Buckley
