Alfreton Town v Chorley

Alfreton Town v Chorley

Thursday Oct 5, 2017

The Reds return to Vanarama National League North action this Saturday when Chorley FC visit the Impact Arena for a 3pm kick-off.

The Magpies currently lie in 9th place in the table with 18 points from 12 games, a playing record of Won 5 Drawn 3 Lost 4.

Last season's clash between the two clubs  saw a 2-2 draw at the Impact Arena. The Magpies led 2-0 going into the last two minutes of the game when the Red's on loan defender George Edmundson popped up with two very late goals to secure an unlikely point.

In the return game in Lancashire, the opposite happened with Alfreton leading through a 23rd minute goal from Liam Hearn only for Chorley to score two late goals to take the points with a 2-1 victory.

The Magpies last game saw them progress to the final Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at North West Counties side Ashton Athletic, courtesy of a late goal by Nick Haughton. They now host Boston United in the next round.

Their last league encounter saw them run out 3-2 winners at home to AFC Telford United, their scorers being Nick Haughton, Josh Wilson and Marcus Calver.

A win for the Reds could see them climb into the play-off zone.

Bill Draper informs us that our first ever meeting with Chorley was our first ever FA Trophy tie on Saturday November 8th, 1969 then known as the Non League Cup. This was the scene of John Harrison's first ever penalty miss, which he repeated the following Saturday when we started our FA Cup marathon at home to Third Division Barrow.

8th November 1969, Alfreton Town 0-0 Chorley: John Mycroft, Peter Johnson, Dick Bate, Mick Bagnall, Peter Neale, Godon "Nudger" Needham, Alan Woodward, Alan Roberts, Bill Naylor, John Harrison, Ken Ford.

Attendance: 998

The Reds will be looking to return to winning ways after the last league outing ended in a 2-1 defeat at Spennymoor Town. This was then followed up last Saturday with an FA Cup Third Qualifying Round defeat at Evo-Stik Premier side Stourbridge. Before these two games, the Reds were unbeaten in seven games.

Saturday also presents Non League Day, the offical partners are Prostate Cancer UK; Reds boss John McDermott, his coaching staff and other members of staff at the club will be sporting the 'Man of Men' pin badge to show support for Prostate Cancer.
