ALFRETON TOWN v CAMBRIDGE UNITED PREVIEW
Monday Sep 16, 2013
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th, 7.45pm
by Matt Carter
Alfreton Town will go in search of a third successive victory when they take on table-topping Cambridge United on Tuesday evening in Skrill Premier action at the Impact Arena.
The Reds, who are as yet to drop a point on their home patch this season, are likely to face their toughest test so far with Cambridge arriving as one of just two unbeaten sides left in the division.
Further to that the U's are currently on a run of three successive wins and have not conceded a goal in over a month.
The Reds though will enter the clash in confidence mood themselves, having picked up their first away points of the season on Saturday with victory at Macclesfield - a result that lifted them into the dizzy heights of the play-off places.
As well as that Nicky Law's men have already picked up several impressive scalps on their home turf this season, including promotion hopefuls Kidderminster Harriers.
This is quite simply the toughest test of the season so far for Alfreton as league leaders Cambridge United arrive unbeaten in eight games so far.
There is plenty of added spice to the game with ex Reds Nathan Arnold and Adam Cunnington in the United ranks and former U's Tom Shaw and Michael Wylde in the home side.
Reds boss Nicky Law has no injury worries and will have son Josh back in contention for a place, the in-form midfield man missed the win at Macclesfield due to the birth of his son.
Alfreton's home form is excellent with four wins from four so far although Cambridge have been ultra tight defensively, conceding just three goals in total and only two in four games on the road.
Alfreton can also take heart from their performances against Cambridge last time, given that they took four points from them over the course of the season - whilst they also finished a place above Richard Money's men, although the league leaders are clearly a stronger proposition this term.
An intriguing contest is in prospect.
