ALFRETON TOWN v BELPER TOWN CUP FINAL PREVIEW

ALFRETON TOWN v BELPER TOWN CUP FINAL PREVIEW

Monday Apr 25, 2016

TUESDAY, APRIL 26th, 7.45pm

Alfreton Town face their penultimate game of the season on Tuesday evening when they make the short trip to Ilkeston FC's New Manor Ground to contest the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final against Belper Town.

The sides have only ever met twice in the final of the competition before, Belper emerging successful both times, so Alfreton fans will certainly be hoping it is a case of third time lucky as the Reds attempt to win the competition for the first time since the 2002/03 season.

The first final against Belper was way back in the 1979-80 season when the Nailers were 2-1 winners on aggregate. Alfreton lost the first leg at Christchurch Meadow 2-0 and despite winning the second leg 1-0 at North Street it was Belper who took the trophy.

The second final clash between the two sides was in the 2007/08 campaign, ironically the last time Alfreton appeared in the final of this competition.

Belper won 3-2 at the Impact Arena in the first leg and triumphed 4-3 overall on aggregate after a 1-1 draw at Alfreton in the second leg.

For Tuesday night's final, Alfreton manager Nicky Law will need a late fitness check on midfield man Andi Thanoj and Law is also without the ineligible trio of Joe Doyle-Charles, Julian Banton and Jamie McDonagh.

Belper Town finished their 2015/16 Evostik First Division South campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Stocksbridge Park Steels last Saturday, the Nailers ending the campaign in thirteenth place out of 22 teams having recorded 15 wins, nine draws and 18 defeats which yielded a goals tally of 66 scored and 65 conceded.

Route
To reach the final, Belper firstly knocked out trophy holders Matlock Town 4-2 then won 2-1 at Glossop North End before triumphing 2-1 at Heanor Town at the semi-final stage.

Alfreton's route to the final has seen them beat Whaley Bridge Athletic 3-1 at the Impact Arena, beat Long Eaton United 6-0 again on home turf before winning 2-1 at Gresley FC in the semi-final.

Kick-off for the final is 7.45pm and extra time and penalties will be utilised if necessary.
