Alfreton Town U18's 2-1 Mickleover Sports U18's

Thursday Sep 7, 2017

Alfreton Town beat Mickleover Sports in the Preliminary Round on Wednesday night at the lmpact Arena 2-1 [after extra time], and will now play Matlock Town away in two weeks time in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup.

The game proved to be a hard close fought affair. After a goalless first half the Reds took the lead ten minutes into  the second period with a well taken goal by striker Harvey Grice who ran onto a through pass and took the ball round the Mickleover keeper, Max Bennett before slotting home.

Alfreton held onto their lead until the the sixth minute of ten minutes strangely added on by the referee at the end of the game. Shirt pulling in the box resulting in a penalty converted by Jack Smedley thus sending the game into extra time.

Both sides battled hard in extra time with the Reds bagging the all important winner with just two minutes to go, once again through Harvey Grice, who struck a shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection on its way into the net for the winner.

The Reds now visit Matlock Town, the date of the fixture is to be confirmed.

Well done to all the Academy team, Manager Jamie Brough and his assistant Liam Hearn
