Alfreton Town sign Academy Youngsters

Alfreton Town sign Academy Youngsters

Tuesday Dec 13, 2016

The Reds are pleased to announce the recent signings of Academy products Ellis Evans, Morgan Brough and MoZiah Selassie.

All three players have shown excellent potential and quality throughout their time in the Reds youth set up and Academy Manager Jamie Brough was delighted to see all three players make the move into the first team picture;

Jamie said, “I’m delighted for all three of the lads, they have done so well throughout their time in the Academy and I’ve been impressed with how they have all applied themselves. I’m proud that they have signed professional contracts with the club and I wish them all the best in the next stage of their development.”

Below is a brief player profile for each of the new signings:

Name: Ellis Evans

Age: 17

Position: Midfield

Previous Clubs: Grassroots Football

Jamie: “Ellis is a combative midfielder with an eye for goal. Never one to shirk out of challenge, Ellis plays with an edge that can so often be lacking in players of today’s game. He is the Academy captain and leads through example, never shy in telling his players to raise their game. Ellis was the first to be involved in Nicky Law’s first team, making the bench against Altrincham in November.”

Name: Morgan Brough

Age: 16

Position: Forward

Previous Clubs: Nottingham Forest, Notts County

Jamie: “Morgan is an aggressive, quick forward who shows strength and power, with an eye for goal, has great feet with the ball and a work ethic that is second to none. His desire and determination to win can at times be his weakness when things aren’t going right for the team; but without it he wouldn’t be the player he is.”

Name: MoZiah Selassie

Age: 16

Position: Full-back

Previous Clubs: Notts County, Bermuda u17s

Jamie: “MoZiah, a Bermudan u17 international, is a true modern day fullback. He’s quick, skilful and loves to get forward. He has excellent ability on the ball and this always makes him a threat with delivery from wide areas when he overlaps. An added bonus to any defender is goals, and Mo contributes 10 plus goals a season.”

Although a number of places have already been taken, there remains places available for Alfreton Town’s elite football academy and football academy. With young boys looking to follow in the foot-steps of Ellis, Morgan and MoZiah; we will soon be holding a series of open training sessions, evening presentations and trial days for boys who are currently in school year 11.

Potential players who are serious about football and are looking to considerably improve over the next two years with a view of either representing Alfreton Town or progressing in to the professional game are invited to register their interest. The academy also has a few places remaining for both boys and girls in year 11 who have a keen interest in sport and wish to peruse a career in any of the following upon leaving school;

Physiotherapy, Teaching, Coaching, Strength and Conditioning; Nutrition, Fitness Instructor, Tutoring, Professional Sport, Personal Trainer, Journalism.

Those lucky enough to be accepted on to the course will receive a first class education at the outstanding facilities of Rolls-Royce Leisure. Anyone requiring further information or wishing to register their interest to attend the training sessions, trials or presentation evenings should email Academy Manager Jamie Brough at jamie.brough@alfretontonfc.co.uk.

With the three youngsters completing their deals, Reds boss Nicky Law was pleased to have acquired the young talent: “It’s great for the club to look at the Academy and notice potential, I’m delighted to have signed all three of the lads and it’s great for Jamie and the Academy that we can sign players and develop them even further. The three lads know that they have to work hard and no doubt they will feature in my future plans but there is no rush and they realise that, it’s about nurturing them and improving their game at the same time.”

Alfreton Town would like to congratulate Ellis Evans, Morgan Brough and MoZiah Selassie on the signings of their professional contracts.
