ALFRETON TOWN 6, GUISELEY AFC 0
Friday May 13, 2011
DESPITE playing their fifth game in 11 days, Alfreton Town turned in an immense performance in front of 750 to clinically destroy sixth-placed Guiseley despite being reduced to ten men after only nine minutes.
The Reds had already taken the lead after just 11 seconds when Nathan Arnold clipped home a ten yard shot before Anthony Howell was somewhat harshly red carded for alleged dangerous play in a 50-50 challenge.
However, the play-off chasing visitors were left shell-shocked as Nicky Law's side went on to totally control the game and doubled their lead on 19 minutes when Josh Law slotted home from the penalty spot after Simon Ainge had brought down Paul Clayton.
Reds man of the match Liam Hearn produced three more top quality finishes with a rapid-fire hat-trick on 44, 45 and 47 minutes before his replacement, Nathan Jarman, headed a superb first goal for the club with a curling ten yarder on 67 minutes.
It was also a fifth successive clean sheet for the Reds who extended their unbeaten home record to 13 games.
Guiseley gained huge credit for their sportsmanship with manager Steve Kittrick coming to the half-way line to shake Liam Hearn's hand when he was substituted and at the end of the game the entire Guiseley team applauded the title-chasing Reds off after what can only be described as a champion performance.
The Reds are back in action on Saturday when they travel to face fifth-placed Solihull Moors. Transport departs at 10.30am..
