REDS COME FROM BEHIND TO GRAB CRUCIAL WIN
Alfreton Town recorded a deserved 4-2 victory at the Impact Arena over Southport in a crucial Vanarama Conference relegation six-pointer on Saturday.
And Nicky Law's side showed a tremendous response to going behind after just 12 minutes when Reds keeper Jason Mooney inexplicably mis-handled a 25 yard Richard Brodie shot, the ball dropping agonisingly over the line.
The Reds took hold of the remainder of the first half but could not find a way through before half-time.
However, two goals in the first five minutes of the second half swung the game Alfreton's way. Bradley Wood (pictured) netted his fifth penalty of the campaign on 47 minutes after Tom Shaw had been tripped by Luke Foster and three minutes later man-of-the-match Wood chased down possession and produced a fantastic cross from the right which Karl Hawley steered home.
Callum Howe's first goal for the club on 64 minutes put the Reds 3-1 up as he powered home an eight yard header to finish a Shaw corner and although Southport reduced the arrears two minutes later when substitute Paul Rutherford netted at the second attempt after being denied by a superb save by Mooney, it was Alfreton who finished the stronger.
Another Wood cross brought the fourth goal on 88 minutes, Southport's Joe Connor putting through his own goal for 4-2 after which there were further chances to enhance the final scoreline.
