Alfreton Town picked up their first point of the season but were denied victory when Southport equalised to make it 3-3 in the first minute of three of added time at the end of the second half.

Paul Clayton got the club's first league goal of the season when he headed the Reds in front after just six minutes but Southport equalised out of the blue on 31 when Shaun Whalley netted a low shot into the far corner past the diving Phil Barnes.

The Reds went 2-1 up on 61 minutes when Ben Tomlinson scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot after Chris Lever had handled in the area.

Paul Clayton's second headed goal of the night on 85 minutes looked to have sealed all three points but Steve Tames equalised with a close range header in stoppage time to gain his side a point.

Alfreton are at home again on Saturday when former League Two side Hereford United are the visitors to the Impact Arena. Kick-off is 3pm. The Bulls are unbeaten in their opening two games.
